Abstract
<PICT:0613344/IV(a)/1> A storage battery is provided with a device to prevent the escape of electrolyte through the gas vent 4 when the battery is inverted, comprising two finely perforated plates 1, 2 enclosing between them a layer 3 of a liquid polymerized silicone which is heavier than the electrolyte. The plates may be made of glass, ceramic material, artificial resin, &c. and may be treated with a water-repellent substance, for example alkylchlorosilane or a halogenated organic compound of silicon.
