[Class 83 (iv)] A press for extruding pipes of lead or other soft, readily fusible material comprises a vertical upper cylinder 10 forming the container and closed at its upper end by a cap 11 carrying the extrusion die 13, a piston 15 working in the container, a sleeve 16 operatively connecting said piston with a ram 17 working in a lower cylinder 18 in alignment with the cylinder 10 and a concentric abor secured to the foot of the cylinder 18 and extending upwardly through the ram 17 and piston 15 and carrying at its upper end a mandrel 27 extending into the die. The two cylinders are secured together by bolts 22 with the interposition of a sleeve 21. The ram 17 is operated by hydraulic fluid admitted and withdrawn through openings 19 and 20. The mandrel has a lower ball end 28 by which it is movably mounted in seatings formed in members 29, 30, the former of which is screwed within the upper end of the arbor 26. In a modified form, the end of the arbor itself forms a part-spherical seating bearing on the upper part of the ball end of the mandrel which is surrounded by a sleeve bearing on the outer surface of the arbour. The container is filled by removing the cap 11. The piston 15 is in two parts, the upper part 15a being a removable ring having a close fit within the cylinder at the top rib portion 15d and a free fit below the rib.
