613,043. Spring suspensions for vehicles. JULIEN, M. F. A. Nov. 14, 1945, No. 30466. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1944. [Class 108 (ii)] In an anti-roll device for vehicles, the two wheels of a pair are connected together by an axle capable of undergoing torsion, the axle being connected to the vehicle by articulations arranged so that vertical displacement of a wheel subjects the axle to torsion which thus exerts an anti-rolling action. The articulations preferably consist of a system of linked arms forming an irregular quadrilateral, one arm being fixed to the axle. As shown, the tubular axle 2 is suspended by arms 1 and torsion members comprising a torsion tube 5 mounted in bearings 17, 18 and torsion bar 4 connected to the tube 5 at 16 and anchored to the chassis frame at 14, as described in Specification 602,065. Rigid with the axle 2 are vertical arms 7 articulated to arms 6 pivoted at B to a bracket 9 fixed with the frame. Vertical displacement of either wheel result in the corresponding arms 7 and hence the axle being twisted, the amount of twist increasing quickly with increasing amplitude of displacement. The joints B, D, E are preferably resilient. A stabilizing transverse rod 11 may be provided, one end being secured to one end of the axis and the other end being secured to the chassie frame.
