Abstract

612,991. Electric welding. WILLIAMS, B. H. LE P. June 13, 1946, No. 17706. [Class 83 (iv)] Aluminium &c. parts c, d are flash-welded when fluid pressure &c. operated clamps a, b are urged together by fluid-pressure piston h to complete a transformer secondary circuit giving 500,000 amperes at 2 to 25 volts. When the joint surfaces attain plasticity, a heavier forging pressure is applied by a piston i, to complete the weld while it is maintained at the forging temperature. The clamps a, b and the pistons h, i may be electronically &c. controlled.
