669,095. Metal-to-ceramic seals. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1948 [Dec. 26, 1947], No. 32978/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. [Also in Group XXVII] A copper or metal bushing is secured to the metal casing and centre electrode insulator of a sparking-plug (see Group XXVII) by firstly coating the surfaces to be joined with a suitable flux, such as powdered borax, and finally heating the metal casing in the vicinity of the bushing to a dull red and simultaneously applying a pressure of about 3000 pounds. The flux coating on the bushing serves as a lubricant which facilitates the assembly of the parts and also forms a glaze which ensures a gas-tight joint between the abutting surfaces.
