Abstract

612,973. Gas holders. WHESSOE, Ltd., AUSTIN, A. F. G., LITTLE, S., and NOONE, M. J. June 12, 1946, No. 17587. [Class 8 (ii)] A horizontally disposed cylindrical gas holder 5 with hemispherical ends is stiffened by annular girders 6 round the circumference of the cylindrical part, supporting forces being applied to the girders 6 at points on or near the horizontal diameter of the vessel by hollow inclined columns 10. Each girder 6 comprises two annular plates 4 welded to the shell 5 and between which are two bearing members 8 with horizontal lower surfaces for engagement with the supporting columns 10. Each end of the columns 10 is arcuate and is attached to horizontal surfaces 8, 12 on the cylinder and the ground by a bolt 13 fitted with a compression spring 14.
