612,959. Hair-cutting appliances ; scissors. HARRISON, C. W. June 11, 1946. No. 17474. [Classes 30 and 131] A hair-cutting appliance comprises scissors in combination with a comb mounted upon and operatively connected to the scissors so as to move towards and away from the ends of the blades of the scissors as the blades are closed and opened. The blades 1, 2 may be curved and may be made of metal or of plastic with an inset cutting edge 3 of metal and as shown in Fig. 3, the comb 4, made of metal or plastic, is mounted on the underside of the blade 2 and is guided for longitudinal movement with respect to the blade 2 by the engagement of the pin 6 in the slot 5 and reciprocated by the link connection 12 to the lugs 13, 15, the teeth 11 extending close to the blade 2 and across its cutting edge at an angle of 15 - 35 degrees to that edge. By means of an oblique or curved slot 5 the teeth 11 are made to move across the blade 2 in the direction away from the blade 1 as the blades are closed. An adjustable guard is provided for determining the distance from the head at which the hair is to be cut and may consist of one or two cranked rods 16 mounted on the comb body 10 on a slider 17 guided in a slideway 18 of dovetailed section. The slider is geared by means of racks 19, 20 and differential pinion 21, which are enclosed in a casing 24, to perform a movement twice or three times as great as the combs teeth and the length of hair left uncut is varied by rotation of. the cranked rods 16 in brackets 25 or by fitting differently cranked rods in the sockets 27. The Provisional Specification describes a two-pronged guard.
