Abstract

612,877. Metal vapour converters. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. June 4, 1946, No. 16949. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] The ring-shaped anode a of a mercury vapour current converter is contained in a chamber in immediate proximity to the liquid cathode, the anode chamber being fixed to the converter cover and wholly contained in the interior of the converter tank leaving between it and the tank wall a space for the free return of condensed mercury to the cathode; the internal wall g of the chamber is a cylindrical screen allowing passage of the discharge and operating as a de-ionizing grid. The anode chamber is preferably fixed to the converter cover by insulating joints so that the screen may be used as a control grid; the surfaces of the chamber other than the screen may be covered with enamel insulation. The tank may be provided with iron or copper cooling fins. Specification 575,387 is referred to.
