[Class 27] Money-boxes.-A removable cash box for a prepayment telephone, or other coinfreed apparatus, has a shutter for closing the aperture by which the coins enter the box, and the coin-freed apparatus has a projecting pin which operates the shutter positively, by cam action, to open it when the box is introduced into the apparatus and to close it again when the box is removed. On the underside (Fig. 3) of the removable lid G of the box is a shutter J pivoted at J<1> for closing the coin aperture H. A latch K, pivoted at K' and biassed clockwise by a spring K<2>, engages with a pin O on the shutter to hold it closed. When the box is introduced into the coin-freed apparatus, a pin E projecting down from the roof of the coin box compartment enters a slot F in the lid G and thrusts aside the latch K to release the shutter J which is then positively opened by a projection E<1> on the pin working down a cam slot L' in a plate L secured to the shutter. Closure of the shutter is likewise positively effected when the box is withdrawn, the parts then being as shown in Fig. 3 with the latch K back in locking engagement with the pin O on the shutter. To prevent interference by the collector with the latch K through the slot F, the latch K is then itself locked by an inaccessible pivoted catch N. A spring N<3> snaps the catch N into its two end positions. It is moved clear of the latch K when the lid is unlocked and removed by a person authorised to empty the box, this being effected by a heel N' of the catch abutting a ledge on the side of the box. When the box is inserted in the apparatus a pin K<3> on the shutter, as it opens, knocks the catch back ready to snap behind the latch K when the box is withdrawn.
