Abstract
612,374. Foundry cores. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS MECANIQUES POUR L'AUTOMOBILE, S.A.M.P.A. May 22, 1946, No. 15566. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1945. [Class 83 (i)] A core for use in a diecasting machine for die-casting hollow pistons or other parts having projecting or undercut portions comprises a central element 1 and side elements 2 between which the element 1 can slide and which are pivotally mounted at 3 about axes fast with the casting table of the machine and perpendicular to the direction of extraction of the core, the central element having cam surfaces 9 adapted, as the element is withdrawn, to engage and tilt the side elements away from the inner faces of the casting. The form of core shown has recesses 8 for the formation of bosses to receive the small end of a connecting- rod. The side members 2 are hinged to parts 4 secured to the casting-table and are normally urged to the position shown in Fig. 1 by means of springs attached to their lower ends. A stop 15 limits the inward movement of the central core element 1. In a modification, the element 1 may be fixed and the casting table may be raised to release the core. For castings of a different shape a core having a single hinged side member could be employed.
