Abstract
555,724. Collapsable cores. PERMOLD CO. Jan. 19, 1942, No. 773. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1941. [Class 83 (i)] A collapsable core for use with a permanent mould in casting pistons or other cup-shaped articles comprises a central section 96, which can be withdrawn by its support 99, and one or more side sections 97, 98 which are so mounted on a part 106, having a lost motion connection with the support 99, that when the section 96 is withdrawn, the side sections are tilted one towards the other. The device is shown as applied to a five-piece core of which the central section and main side sections 28, 29, Fig. 6, are operated as described in Specification 553,517, while the sections 97, 98, which are pivoted to the part 106, held up by ropes 115 and weights 119, are first tilted inwardly, by a swelling 112 on the support 99 engaging tails 110 as it moves down, and then moved down by a pin 108 of the support 99 coming in contact with the bottom of a slot 109 in the part 106.
