Abstract
611,428. Electrostatic precipitation. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO., Inc. April 25, 1946, No. 12473. Convention date, May 1, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] An electrostatic dust-precipitating apparatus is constructed of plate assemblies such as are shown in Fig. 4, so built up that electrically opposite assemblies 3 and 4 normally fit into interleaved relationship (Fig. 6, not shown), and are so arranged that each assembly is removably supported in the housing independently of the other. The plates 3 of the grounded assemblies have a central clearance space 10 and are rigidly held in spaced parallel relationship by spacers on securing rods 7, which terminate in nuts at either end. The grounded plate assemblies are mounted in a housing 11, Figs. 11, 13, with their plates extending vertically in the direction of gasflow, the lowest one resting on the bottom of the housing, and the upper ones on,trackways 16 provided by shelves 15. Secured to each side of these assemblies is a shallow trayshaped member 17 to close the space between the end of each assembly and the housing wall. After being slidably inserted along these tracks, the grounded assemblies are positioned by vertical flanges 18 and latching flanges 20. At each side of the rear of the housing, a pair of insulators 30 support a metal bus-bar 31 which is provided with several pairs of oppositely projecting transverse pins 32. Each of the insulated assemblies carries a pair of forks 33, Fig. 15 (not shown), each of which straddles the bus-bar and rests on the upper sides of a double pin, so that the rear ends of the said assemblies are supported and electrically connected, while insulated as a whole from the housing. The front end of each insulated assembly is supported by a rod which passes laterally through a pair of lugs attached to the assembly. The rod is insulated from the lugs, Fig. 17 (not shown), and rests at each end in latching grooves 37 at the front ends of the trackways 15. Thus the insulated assemblies may be removed bodily first, and then the grounded assemblies, this order being reversed on replacement. The walls of the housing extend upwardly beyond the top wall, as at 12 and 13, thus forming a space 14 for containing the necessary wiring.
