Abstract
611,379. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 30, 1946, No. 12973. Convention date, March 18, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge tube the rod-shaped carrying members for electrodes are provided with longitudinal cavities containing a hardened filling material in which supports for electrodes or other parts are set. The carrying members may be of quartz, hard glass, ceramic material or metal; the filling may be of magnesium oxide mixed with water-glass, or glass or enamel. Fig. 5 shows a section of the electrode system of a two-beam cathode-ray tube. The carrying rods 1, 2, 3, 4 have longitudinal grooves 28 filled with a paste made of powdered glass mixed with water or alcohol; the supports 7 for the electrodes are set in this paste which is then heated so that it hardens. The heating may be by wires mounted on the jig holding the parts in this temporary position, and running through grooves or channels in the support rods. An arrangement of this kind is shown in Fig. 6, in which the heater wires 19 are stretched between spring-actuated holders 15, 16 and pass along slots 27 in the support rods 26.
