Abstract
A silicone oil, preferably a substantially fully condensed organo-siloxane, is used as the temperature-responsive liquid in a thermostat (see Group XIII). The organic radicals in the siloxane are preferably monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, e.g. lower alkyl and phenyl radicals, and there may be an average of 2-3 radicals per Si atom. The silicone oil preferably freezes below 0 DEG C. and boils above 250 DEG C. at 760 mm. pressure. Specified oils are dimethyl, dimethyl-trimethyl, dimethyl-phenylethyl, dimethyl-diamyl and phenyldimethyl silicone polymers, of which the preparation is described.
