Abstract

609,615. Lens systems. BUDDEN, R. G., and BLACKMORE, L. March 19, 1946, No. 8432. [Class 97 (i)] To correct, at least partially, zonal aberrations, a photographic or projection lens has disposed coaxially therewith and between its front surface and its focal plane one or more plane, parallel sided circular or annular zone plates of chosen dimensions and refractive index. The plates may be connected to a supporting plate or to the plane surface of a lens, and may correct spherical or comatic aberration or both. Numerical data are given for the cemented doublet shown, having cemented thereto zone plates P2, P3, P4, the latter two having the same refractive index. In another example, plates P2, P4 are omitted and in a third example the plates P3 and P4 are omitted.
