Abstract

609,554. Incandescent lamps. CLAUDEGENERAL NEON LIGHTS, Ltd., and HIGGINS, C. March 15, 1946, No. 8163. [Class 39(ii)] [Also in Group XL(a)] A cap 1 to be secured to the envelope of an electric lamp by means of cement is provided with an internal peripheral shoulder 8 which, in conjunction with the adjacent open end portion 4 of the cap (which is in engagement with the envelope) and the part of the envelope 5 surrounded by it, forms a substantially enclosed annular space which retains the cement and prevents it flowing away from the joint prior to hardening and setting. The internal shoulder 8 may be formed by pressing or tooling a groove around the outside of a metal cap or by moulding when the cap is made of insulating material. The provision of the shoulder facilitates the simultaneous capping of both ends of a tubular lamp which is held in a vertical position during the capping operation.
