Abstract
640,782. Capping electric incandescent lamps. DESHAW, Z. Aug. 24, 1948, No. 22248. [Class 39(ii)] In order to prevent or reduce cracking due to expansion when the cement used to secure a lamp cap to a bulb is heated to cure and harden it, the cement, in a plastic condition, is applied to the cap or bulb, or both, in such manner as to provide space into which it can expand circumferentially during the heat treatment. The cement, which may consist of a heat-expansible and heat-setting synthetic plastic of known form, is preferably applied to the inside of the enlarged mouth 2 of the cap 1 and disposed in the form of a ring that is divided by gaps 5 into a number of separate, spaced, arcuate bands 6, three such bands being shown in the example.
