Abstract

609,391. Heating fluids by electric resistances. TILLS, J. W. March 13, 1946, No. 7776. [Class 39(iii)] An elongated resistance element through which a fluid to be heated passes, is in at least two parts 11a and 11b, each part having connections whereby it is capable of being energized by a separate electric current. In the Figure two parts having a common connection 12c are shown, this connection being capable of movement along the element, which is preferably tubular and may be coiled in a single or double helix. If desired, the element may comprise two conduits side by side of " flattened " cross-section, or a single tube having a central partition. The parts of the element may be energized in parallel by a transformer secondary or by separate transformer windings, the transformer being preferably of poor regulation.
