Abstract

609,282. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids. MILNE, J. N., and ORTON, J. W. March 11, 1946, No. 7519. [Class 135] A device for relieving excess pressure in fluid containers comprises an easily ruptured disc 3 gripped between rings 2, 4, the support ring 2 being of hard or hardened metal and having a sharp shearing edge to the face making contact with the disc. Ring 2 may be ground on the face contacting the disc. The disc is preferably made of silver and is provided with a groove 8 engaging with a projection and recess in the rings to assist in preventing slipping of the disc. Ring 4 may be knurled or roughened. The rings and disc may be welded together. The assemblage is held in a flanged tube 1 by a nut 6, the nut and tube being formed with hexagonal openings for manipulation. Alternatively, the assemblage is held in the tube by folding over a part of the latter.
