Abstract

609,248. Filters. HOUCHIN, R. W. March 8, 1946, No. 7345. [Class 46] A filter for liquids is provided on the discharge side of a stationary filtering element with numerous stationary collecting compartments connected to the discharge conduit for the filtrate, means being provided for enabling a reverse flow of filltrate to be effected successively through each of the compartments or through groups of compartments to effect a cleaning of the filtering element. In the arrangement shown a filtering element 4 is secured by a clamping ring 6 across the open side of the hollow casing 1 which is divided into compartments 2 by radial webs 3. The ring 6 has webs 10 corresponding to the webs 3. Filtered liquid flows through radial passages 26 in the compartments 2 to a collecting chamber 27 within which is mounted a rotary valve 29. Some of the filtered liquid is pumped from the chamber 27 and through an outlet 28 and delivered through an opening 34 into the interior of the rotary valve 29 and flows through two radial holes 30 and radial passages 26 whereby the compartments 2 are in pairs successively subjected to return flow of filtrate for the cleansing of the filtering element 4. An electric motor may be provided to drive two pumps, one for supplying liquid to the filters and the other for the reverse flow of filtrate, and also to effect the rotation of the valve 29. According to the Provisional Specification. the filter element may comprise fibre mesh sandwiched between two horizontal perforated plates and the valve may be a rotary or slide valve.
