Abstract

609,016. Wheel tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO.. Ltd.. and BLANCHARD L. S. June 14 1946, No. 17864. [Class 144 (i)] Stripping tyres from cores.-A device for stripping a tyre cover from its building-mould comprises an expansible ring, adapted to be fitted within one of the tyre beads, having associated means for automatically expanding the ring when a lifting-force is applied thereto. As shown in Fig. 1, the ring is formed in two segments 5a, 5b, pivoted together at 5c, the other ends being fitted with oppositelytapped pivoted nuts 6, 7 traversed by a correspondingly - threaded bolt 8. A link 9, splined on the bolt 8, carries a shackle 10 for engagement by the hook of a lifting-device. On application of the lifting-force, the link 9 is rocked to actuate the bolt 8 and spread the open ends of the ring. In the modification shown in Figs 3 and 4, the ring comprises two main segments 15a, 15b pivoted to an intermediate segment 15d. The open ends of the segments 15a, 15b are connected to a tension-spring 26. A link 19 adjustably pivoted at one end on the segment 15b, has its other end fitted with an arcuate plate 19a having a wiping-engagement with a cam 22 pivoted on the segment 15a. In this form, the lifting-shackle 10 is connected by links 24 to the splined ends of the cam-spindle 23. On the application of a lifting force to the shackle 10, the segments 15a, 15b are spread through the thrust of the cam on the rod 19.
