Abstract
608,705. Indicators for displaying variable information. JESSOP & SONS, Ltd., W., and WHITAKER, C. E. Feb. 28, 1946, No. 6197. [Class 118 (i)] An indicator board for indicating the time progress of persons, articles, &c., comprises a longitudinallyextending panel adapted to carry time-indicating legends and provided with a plurality of longitudinally-spaced guides for detachably supporting item-indicating slips, openings or projections adapted to receive marking elements, each corresponding to an item whose tune progress is to be indicated and a cursor mounted for transverse movement on said board and adapted to co-operate with said time-indicating legends in indicating a time by which a given progress of individual items is required. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the indicator board consists of a rectangular frame 10 (intended for mounting in a vertical position) comprising a pair of vertical metal side members 11 connected at their top and bottom by metal channels 12 and 13 respectively and provided with a back plate 14 secured to the members 12 and 13 by transversely extending Z-shaped members 15-(Fig. 4), the frame being stiffened by transversely extending members 16 and 17. A rectangular metal panel 18 of channel section, formed with a plurality of vertically-spaced forwardlyextending projections 21 at a short distance inwardly from each flange 19, for supporting item-indicating slips 22 (Fig. 4), is supported adjacent the left-hand vertical member 11 a space 23 devoid of the projections 21 being left at the top of the panel for displaying a suitable legend. The remainder of the space in the frame is filled with a plurality 12 of longitudinally extending panels 24, comprised of flat metal sheets reinforced along each of their longitudinal edges by channel-shaped reinforcing members 25, each panel being formed with holes 26, arranged in grid formation, such that the panels present transversely extending rows of holes, one row corresponding to each indicating slip, and each hole adapted to carry coloured pegs 30 (Fig. 4) indicative of certain information such as the nature of a desired operation. The upper part of each panel 24 is provided with a space for displaying a timeindicating legend 27. The panels are removably mounted within the frame by forming the frame member 12 with a number of transverselyspaced slots which allow the panels to be withdrawn individually. Further holes (not shown) may be provided above the uppermost row of holes 26 for detachably carrying figures representing particular dates. A cursor 31 (Figs. 1, 4 and 5) mounted for slidable transverse movement in relation to the frame is provided with holes 34, corresponding to and in alignment with the holes 26, into which pegs may be inserted to indicate additional information. The holes 26 and 34 may be replaced by projections adapted to detachably engage and support suitable indicating elements. Fig. 6 (not shown) depicts an arrangement comprising two indicator boards disposed back-to-back and carried by a support suitable for table mounting. The Provisional Specification describes a construction in which the panel 18 is provided with a plurality of horizontal rows of holes, each row comprising three holes and each hole separated from its neighbour by a combination of horizontal and vertical lines which produce a grid effect. The panels 24 are similarly " gridded " and each is provided with a horizontal row of nine holes. In this construction, nine of the panels 24 are employed, each being about four inches wide and the panel 18 is about one-and-threequarter inches wide.
