607,867. Thermally-actuated valves. BURGESS, A. F. (Young Radiator Co.). May 29, 1945, No. 13444. [Class 135] A temperature controlled valve mechanism, particularly for use with heat exchange units for aircraft oil cooling systems, and comprising a housing 12, Fig. 4, adapted to be bolted on a unit having a shell containing air-cooling tubes and a transverse or annular auxiliary warm-up chamber, has main oil inlet and outlet ports 14, 15 respectively in the side wall, and an auxiliary outlet 16, Fig. 5, and auxiliary inlets 17, 18 in its base. The housing is divided into four chambers 33, 34, 35, 36, having a spindle 51 passing through ports 37, 38, 39, in the partitioning walls and slidably supporting spring-loaded closure members 52, 53, 54, and having one end attached to a bellows or wax type thermostat 20 in the outlet chamber 36. The auxiliary inlets 17, 18, communicate past check valves 71, 72, with the chambers 35, 36.
