Abstract
607,855. Depth charges. BARNES, F. G. Sept. 15, 1943, No. 15159. Convention date, July 21, 1942. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A depth charge adapted to be fired from a ship or released from an aircraft and to detonate either on direct impact on a surface vessel or on traversing the magnetic field of a submerged vessel below a predetermined depth, comprises a casing 5 housing a high-explosive charge 9, a detonating charge carried in a member 7a and an electromagnetic unit 11, the detonating charge being initiated either by a striker 7, or by an electro-magnetic unit (see Group XXXVII) in response to the magnetic field surrounding a submerged vessel.
