[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In a metal facing, boring, turning or grinding machine, a tool slide having tools on at least two sides is mounted on a slide bracket rotatably adjustable on a support member supported at both ends and is fed towards the work by a hydraulic cylinder, the tool slide having a slot through which the support member passes; to adjust the tools initially relative to the work, the support member can be rotated on eccentric mountings on its two supports, swung about a pillar forming one of the supports and adjusted along and at right angles to the pillar axis. The tool slide h, Figs. 7 and 8, is recessed round three sides to receive tools j, j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>2</SP>, and the fourth side is connected to the ram g<SP>1</SP> of a hydraulic feed cylinder g carried by a slide bracket f having guides for the slide. The slide bracket is rotatable on a support member d so that the feed movement towards the workpiece t held in a chuck t<SP>1</SP> may be at any angle, and the bracket is locked in the adjusted position by a sleeve r and nut q. A slot i in the tool slide accommodates the sleeve rand permits feed of the slide relative to the support member. The support member is carried by two brackets b, c, Fig. 5, the bracket b being fixed by a screw x to a pillar u rotatably mounted in the machine table, and the bracket c being adjustable circumferentially round the pillar u in a slot o<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, in which it may be locked by a nut o<SP>2</SP>. The support member is attached to the bracket b by an eccentric spindle e and to the bracket c by a collar l slidable on a rod m on the bracket ; the collar has a locking screw l<SP>1</SP> and a pin k<SP>1</SP>, coaxial with the spindle e, on which an eccentric k on the support member is rotatable and slidable. The support member has tommy holes e<SP>3</SP> for rotating it and the adjustment is locked by a nut e<SP>1</SP>. The rod m is supported between pins n eccentric to the axis of the rod and has a knurled head p to enable it to be rotated to provide a fine circumferential adjustment; a hand wheel p<SP>1</SP> locks this adjustment. Adjustment along and at right angles to the axis of the pillar u, after release of the screw x and, in the first case, the collar locking screw l<SP>1</SP>, is provided, respectively, by a hand wheel b<SP>6</SP> engaging a screwed spindle b<SP>3</SP> on the bracket b<SP>2</SP> engaging the bracket b ; tommy holes w are provided on the pillar. One or more such tool rigs may be provided on the machine and motor-driven drills or grinding-wheels may be substituted for the cutting tools j, j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>2</SP>.
