[Class 141] Seams of coats made of thermo plastic sheet material such as polythene, particulary the armhole seams, are produced by securing strengthening strips 3, 4 to the edges of the garment sections 1, 2 by means of welding 6, 7, and then folding in the edges of the sections as shown in Fig. 3 and securing them by stitching 5. The welding may be carried out by a high frequency apparatus. The sections of the garment at the shoulder seam are gathered as at 8, Fig. 4, and united by a yoke piece 9 which is folded over the out-turned edges of the sections and secured by stitching 10. The coat is gathered at the waist and fitted with a belt, and parts of the coat may be stiffened or strengthened by pieces of material secured by stitching and welding.
