605,592. Accelerometers. RECORD ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and RECORD, J. L. R. Dec. 31, 1945, No. 35222. [Class 106 (iii)] An accelerometer of the type comprising a pendulous magnet co-operating with an armature which moves therewith and operates indicating means, is characterised by the provision of means of the eddy current type for damping the motion of the magnet. On a spindle b is suspended a U-shaped magnet a and an armature c having lugs c<2> for engagement with the magnet during its operative movement and having a toothed quadrant d meshing with a pinion e on a shaft f which carries, by means of a spider h, a graduated drum g whose indications are observable through a window i. A ratchet m on the spindle f is engaged by a pawl n which can be disengaged by depression of a pushbutton r (not shown). A T-sectioned conductor (e.g. copper) of arcuate form is located between the legs of the magnet a so that eddy currents set up by the swinging magnet damp the motion of the latter.
