605,180. Electromagnets. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc., Dec. 17, 1945, No. 34188. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1944. [Class 35] [Also in Group XX] To correct for errors in a magnetic compass due to the magnetism of the supporting craft, opposed distributed-winding coils are arranged on the compass bowl so as to provide a uniform compensating field therein. Each coil, e.g. the coil centred at F. in the development of the cylindrical wall of the bowl shown, has its winding distributed over twelve of the twenty four slots with the density of the vertical wires increasing in arithmetical progression from the middle to either side.
