605,171. Protective arrangements. JORGEN. SEN, K. V. Dec. 17, 1945, No. 34130. Convention date, Jan. 25. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIX] The wire 2 used for binding the overhead low current (e.g. telephone or telegraph) transmission line 1 to the insulator 3 is extended beyond its usual length and has a bent back portion 5 which forms, together with the earthed supporting bracket 4, a spark-gap for by-passing high voltages such as those due to lightning. For routes already constructed a separate wire may be bound over the existing binding wire and bent back to form the upper electrode of the spark-gap, Fig. 3 (not shown). To avoid damage to the bracket a separate strip of metal may be interposed between the bracket and the upper fixing screw and utilized as the lower electrode of the spark gap, Fig. 4 (not shown). This interposed strip may be bent up to form the spark-gap between it and the extended binding wire whose bent portion 5 is then omitted, Fig. 5 (not shown).
