Abstract
604,913. Valves controlled by auxiliary valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 14, 1944, No. 17626. 'Convention date, Aug. 11, 1943. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIII] An electrically-controlled release valve in the pressure conduit 15 of a de-icing system for aircraft (see Group XXXIII), comprises a valve member 61 pivoted to a bell-crank lever 63 engaged by a spring-loaded plunger 66 carried by a diaphragm 71, the chamber 72 below the diaphragm being open to atmosphere through a port 79, and the chamber 73 above the diaphragm being connected to the pressure conduit 15 or open to atmosphere according to the position of a spring-loaded, auxiliary valve 92 controlled by an electromagnet 99. If the magnet is energized, the valve 92 is moved to the position shown, and chamber 73 is then connected to the conduit 15 through passages 90 and 80 so that the valve 61 is held closed. If the magnet is de-energized, the valve 92 is moved to the left by its spring to isolate passage 80 from passage 90 and allow chamber 73 to exhaust through a port 91. The valve 61 then opens under the action of pressure in the conduit. Specifications 548,138 and 621,490 are referred to.
