Abstract

604,842. Filters. K. A. C., Ltd., LOVE, J., and RENNIE, J. Dec. 5, 1945, No. 32948. [Class 46] A filter casing 1 has a removable cover 4, an outlet 3 and an inlet 2 controlled by a slide valve 10. A member 8 is screwed into a second member 7 which in turn screws into another member 6, the threads on the members being of different pitch so that when the first member is moved to its operating position it first causes the cover 4 to be secured, further movement causing the opening of the inlet port 2. The first member comprises a tube 8 against which the valve 10 is pressed by a spring 11. It is turnable by a handle 9 and has a threaded, preferably square threaded, connection with the member 7 which screws into a cross-piece 6 and carries a collar 7' acting on the cover 4. The tube 8 slides on an inner fixed sleeve 13 which carries the valve 10. In operation, to unlock the assembly the square-thread turns first allowing the valve to descend and close the inlet 2. An aperture 12 in the tube co-operates with holes 14 in the inner sleeve 13 to allow oil in the casing to drain out through the hole 18, air being admitted through the pipe 13<SP>1</SP> and the hole 16. When the collar 15 engages the member 7, this turns to release the cover 4 which can then be removed. The handle is normally prevented from rotation by a spring 17 enaging serrations in the bottom of the casing.
