Abstract
604,664. Dynamo-electric machines. SIGMUND, F., and HLAVIN, W. S. Nov. 10, 1943, No. 18709. [Class 35] Rubber-like material is applied to the winding in the slots of a laminated core to envelope the windings and bond with a previously applied coating of similar material covering the core surface, including the slot walls and open ducts for cooling fluid are formed in the surface of this material facing the air-gap in the slot mouths. Alternate laminae may be dipped in or sprayed with insulation, and when dry, a coating 11 is applied over the whole core surface and the windings are placed in the slots. The individual turns may also be coated with rubber or the like and the core is then placed in a tightly-fitting container and a further quantity of insulation is forced in to fill the slots. In this operation a mandrel with axial ribs is pushed into the stator bore and the ribs cause ducts 36 to be formed in the slot mouths. A further coating may then be applied by dipping over the core surface, including the end windings but the thickness of this over the teeth may be reduced by machining. During the dipping a layer of powdered mica or asbestos may be interposed between successive rubber layers. The ducts 36 may be lined with zinc or lead which may also coat the end windings (layer 37). The composition of the various insulating layers may differ somewhat. Specification 574,491 is referred to.
