604,651. Blocks for sheets of abrasive &c. material polishers. PERCIVAL, L. K. Dec. 10, 1945, No. 33316. [Classes 19 and 60] A holder for cleaning materials in sheet form comprises a block of substantially triangular section having a longitudinal groove along one side, a gripping member adapted to grip one edge of a piece of the cleaning material within the groove of the block, said material extending across the lower face of the block and being secured at its other edge to the other side of the block and a connecting element between the block and gripping member which is pivotally connected both to the block and the gripping member. As shown, the block 3 has two gripping members 6, pivotally connected thereto by bent wire elements 7, and having curved extremities which enter grooves 8 in the block and serve to retain the ends of the cleaning material. Preferably, the upper edges of the curved gripping members are adapted to seat on the inclined face portions 9 of the block, whereby when said members are gripped they -tend to ride up the faces 9 to provide a tightening action on the cleaning material over the working face 4. When a single gripping member only is provided, the cleaning material may be secured to the other side by means of a clamp. The device may be used with abrasive or polishing cloths such as emery or glass cloth or paper, metal wool or cloths embodying metallic threads and sandpaper.
