604,646. Closures for automobile fuel and radiator tanks &c. LEES, T. Nov. 30, 1945, No. 32333. [Class 125(iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A hinged cap for the filling orifice of a liquid tank, such as a fuel tank or radiator tank of an automobile, is held closed by a magnet of circular shape disposed within the cap or around the seating of the cap, an armature being provided upon the seating of the cap or in the cap itself respectively. As shown, a tubular member a adapted to screw into the filling opening is closed by a hinged cap b fitted with a soft iron annulus d which co-operates with a U-shaped ring magnet f on the member a, the poles of the magnet being formed by the two limbs of the U. The channel between the poles is filled with a plastic material l such as polyvinyl chloride. In a modification, the magnet is in the form of a nearly closed ring and a soft iron plate riveted inside the cap is of a suitable size to bridge the poles of the magnet. In this arrangement, the magnet could be in the form-of an electro-magnet and provision may be made for breaking the circuit prior to opening the cap.
