Abstract
Ageing of rubber is prevented by the addition of a mixture of two substances which act respectively to prevent the absorption of oxygen and to deactivate the peroxides formed. The rubber mix is vulcanized in the presence of the mixture, the ingredients of which may be added separately or as an intimate mixture prepared by grinding or melting, or mixed with an inert substance which facilitates dispersion. The ingredients are used in the proportion of 1 1/2 -2:1. The substance of the first type is selected from the secondary aromatic amine group, e.g., phenyl-B naphthylamine or the reaction product thereof with an aldehyde or ketone. The substance of the second type is an imidazole, preferably mercapto-benzimidazole.
