Abstract

603,976. Cooling gun barrels. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31076. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1939. [Class 92 (ii)] In order that it may be cooled, the barrel of a gun comprises an inner liner 1 having a thin wall and a smooth outer surface, and an outer thicker body 2 tightly enclosing the liner and formed on its inner surface with longitudinal channels 9, these channels being interconnected by fore and rear peripheral channels 10, 11 which interconnect with radial channels 13, 12, respectively. The cooling medium, which may be liquid or gas under high pressure, is conducted through the inlet channels 12 and after passing through the channel 11 and channels 9 is discharged through the outlet channels 13. The liner 1 is fixed in an axial direction by a flange 3, a lining member 4, and a nut 5, and at the forward end of the barrel there is a stuffing-box 6 against which a muzzle nut 7 presses.
