Abstract
603,909. Oil-settling apparatus. ANDERSON, R. T. Nov. 5, 1945, No. 29330. [Class 46] A tank in which solid particles are removed by settling from oil from presses, is provided with a sloping apron 18 above and below which, respectively, are an inlet 15 and an outlet 16. Oil, after entering, first moves to the end of the apron and, passing beneath it moves towards the outlet, the solid particles settling on the apron 18 and the tank bottom 13. Scrapers connected to endless chains 28 move down over the apron 18, along the tank bottom 13, and upwardly to and over a screen 35 through which.oil may pass, thereby collecting the solid material and conducting it to a receiver 36. A spiral conveyer 37 returns the solids to the presses. A vertical baffle 45 depends from the apron 18 making a zone of stationary clean oil from which oil is taken back to the presses for cooling purposes. A swinging hammer 43 strikes each scraper in turn removing any remaining solid material. The outlet 16 leads to a foam collector 17 mounted on a wall of the tank and communicating with it by a foam overflow opening 27. Heating means are provided on the tank for use when settling heavy oils or greases.
