Abstract
Reaction products of rubber and rubber-like materials are obtained by mixing natural rubber balata or guttapercha or a highly polymerized rubber-like synthetic unsaturated hydrocarbon having a molecular weight above 5000 with at least 15 per cent calculated on the weight of the rubber or rubber-like material of an unsaturated compound which contains the grouping <FORM:0602843/IV(a)/1> conjugated with one or more >CO radicals and the mixture heated in the absence of a solvent to a temperature of 100-250 DEG C. The unsaturated compound may be maleic acid anhydride, a b -unsaturated aldehydes, acids, acid anhydrides and esters of acetylene-dicarboxylic acid, and acrolein. The products may be soft or hard according to the amount of the unsaturated compound used, and may be vulcanized. The products may be used as a starting material for preparing further substances by reaction with water, alcohol, ammonia and amines. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of the reaction product of a butadiene-styrene copolymer with acetylene dicarboxylic dimethyl ester. French Specification 743,302 is referred to.ALSO:Reaction products of rubber and rubber-like materials are obtained by mixing natural rubber balata or gutta percha or a highly polymerised rubber-like synthetic unsaturated hydrocarbon having a molecular weight above 5000 with at least 15 per cent calculated on the weight of the rubber or rubber-like material of an unsaturated compound which contains the grouping -<\>ac=<\>ac- or -ccconjugated with one or more = co radicals and the mixture heated in the absence of a solvent to a temperature of 100-250 DEG C. The unsaturated compound may be maleic acid anhydride, a b unsaturated aldehydes, acids, acid anhydrides and esters of acetylene-dicarboxylic acid, and acrolein. The products may be soft or hard according to the amount of the unsaturated compound used, and may be vulcanized. The products may be used as a starting material for preparing further substances by reaction with water, alcohol, ammonia, and amines. French Specification 743,302 is referred to. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2(5) of the reaction product of a butadiene-styrene copolymer with acetylene dicarboxylic dimethyl ester.
