Abstract

A process for the production of nitrophosphate fertilizers consists in first effecting a partial, say 20-40 per cent, solubilization of calcium phosphate by means of nitrogen oxides, and in then completing the solubilization by nitric acid. Water vapour from the mixer employed in the second stage may pass to the first stage, and may be supplemented by an additional amount. The pasty product from the mixer may be granulated by mixing with or without cooling, or by mixing with granulated products or powdered wastes resulting from a previous operation. The nitrogen oxides used may be obtained by the oxidation of ammonia or of the nitrogen in air in an electric arc. Specification 598,579 is referred to.
