Abstract
601,732. Shank stiffeners for footwear. TURNER, S. T., and KING, E. P. April 9, 1945, No. 8787. Drawings to Specification. [Class 17(ii)] These are made by assembling in superposed relation a number of hardwood veneer laminations pre-cut to the requisite outline and coated with adhesive, or with laminations of adhesive interposed between adjacent faces, and moulding them under the action of pressure and heat to the required longitudinal and transverse curvatures. The laminations may be placed with the grain of adjacent laminations at right angles to one another and may be reinforced by insertions or coverings of metal sheet or gauze or other material. The covering may be of textile material or leather to facilitate sewing the shank stiffener to the upper.
