Abstract

In a process, e.g. the catalytic cracking of <PICT:0601389/III/1> hydrocarbon oils, in which gaseous fluid is contacted in a zone 10 with a dense bed of fluidised solid and contaminated solid is continuously withdrawn at 44 to a stripping zone 52, the stripping zone is provided with baffle means 66, 68, and the stripping gas leaving the zone is led through pipe 98 into the treated gaseous fluid after its separation from the fluidised solid. The solid passes through the stripping zone as a dilute suspension, collects as a dense fluidised bed 82, and is then led p to a regenerator through pipe 96. Stripping gas may pass into the reactor 10 above the level of the dense bed, into a separator 28, or into a pipe leading from the separator. Alternatively an extra separator may be provided for the stripping gas and the solids removed returned to the stripping zone or led into pipe 96. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the solid is introduced and removed at the base of the stripping zone, wherein it is maintained as a dense fluidised bed. The baffle means consist of vertical partitions around which the fluidised solid flows. Reference is also made to the use of perforated plates and packing in the stripping zone. Specification 568,298 is referred to.
