Abstract

<PICT:0788294/III/1> Fluidized solids are transferred from zone 202 to zone 200 by withdrawing the solids through column 222 to a sealing zone 228, from which the solids pass through pipe 234 to zone 200; the point of withdrawal of solids from sealing zone 228 is above the discharge level from the column 222 which has an extension 327, preferably at least half the depth of the sealing zone; gas is introduced at 238 into line 234 to reduce the density of the solids and so control the rate of flow. Fluidizing gas is also introduced at 224 and 232. Solids are returned from zone 200 to zone 202 in a similar manner through standpipe 248 and sealing zone 260. In a catalytic cracking process, hydrocarbon is introduced at 266 or 268 or both and contacts catalyst, e.g. silica-alumina, in zone 202 at 850-950 DEG F. The catalyst passes through orifices 214 to zone 216 where it is stripped by gas entering at 218. Regeneration with air takes place in zone 200 at 1000-1200 DEG F. Zones 200 and 202 are provided with cyclone separators, the solid discharges from which may comprise lift pots 154, 1541 as described in Specification 788,293. Reference is also made to the use of the apparatus for hydroforming and coking.
