[Class 33 (i)] In a plug and socket coupling of the type shown, Fig. 1, the plug comprises a nest of frustoconical rings each provided with a solid part 1 and a slotted contractile part 2. The rings are threaded on a pin 3 and secured by turning over its head 4, the parts 1 having a smaller apex angle than the parts 2. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown), the conical parts are inverted relative to one another and are secured on the pin by a conical spacer and a nut. Fig. 5 shows a modification of the plug in which each ring is provided with a cylindrical part 1<1> and a conical part 2, the nest of rings being retained on the pin 3 by a washer 6 and a nut 7. In a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) the slotted conical part 2 is replaced by a cylindrical part which is joined to the part 1<1> by a conical frustum, and is provided preferably with beaded contact edges to engage tightly in the socket. In a socket as shown in Fig. 3, the nest of rings is supported in a connecting piece 13, the rings, slotted at 11, being soldered together at 12 and to the connecting piece at 12a. The socket is modified, Fig. 4 (not shown) by replacing the connecting piece by a suspension piece fitting into the first ring, the suspension piece being. set in a supporting base. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also plugs and sockets consisting of conical rings nesting in cylindrical portions which may be of the same diameter, Figs. 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, 18 (Cancelled) (not shown), or of increasing diameters, Figs. 11, 13 ... 17 (Cancelled) (not shown). One form of socket, Fig. 7 (Cancelled) (not shown), comprises a tube whose end is turned over the upper ring of a nest. Multi-connection concentric plugs and sockets, Fig. 19 (Cancelled, not shown), are also described in which the rings are insulated from each other and an alternative in which an inner nest of rings is mounted within and insulated from an outer nest. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
