Abstract

<PICT:0600538/IV(b)/1> <PICT:0600538/IV(b)/2> A portable cylindrical acetylene generator wherein the production of gas is obtained by laying the casing on a lateral side comprises an outer casing 1 adapted to contain water, a carbide basket 18, a counter-pressure chamber 14 adapted to contain a gas pressure regulating air cushion and having a water inlet orifice 16, a gas outlet 13, a moisture-condensing and gas cooling box 12 and gas guiding means 11, 9, 12, 8 for causing gas generated in said casing to flow to said gas outlet through said box, said box extending in part through said counter-pressure chamber and being located adjacent to said water inlet orifice, in such relation to said casing as to be completely immersed in water in the operative position of the generator, whereby a portion at least of the wall of said box is adapted to contact the cool water in said chamber and a portion of said wall is adapted to be swept by water flowing in and out of said chamber through said orifice following fluctuations of the water level.
