600,474. Combs. GILBERT, L., and HOBSON, L. J. March 5, 1945, No. 5469. [Class 131] A comb having a hair cleansing or treating unit which is preferably removable has a swivelling closure cap. As shown in Fig. 2 the unit 12, comprising a spindle 13 with at least one triangular or rectangular end 14 engaging a corresponding depression 15 in the comb and with a covering of absorbent material 17 contacting the hair through orifices between the roots of the teeth 20, is inserted in the longitudinal axial bore 3 in the body 1 of the comb which is closed by a swivelling closure cap 5 pivotally attached to the front 6 of the comb by a spindle 8 spring- loaded at 9. After use a new setting of the unit is obtained by withdrawing it from the comb body and replacing it after rotation. In a modification shown in Fig. 13 a rotatable cap 22 is provided which receives the end of the unit in a suitably shaped socket 15 and by which rotation of the unit to its several settings may be obtained without withdrawal. The rotatable cap may be prevented from rotation between settings by inter-engaging ribs and depressions, spring and ball loading or a ratchet device. Many modified units for the treatment of the hair are described including brush units and a drum for applying powder. The closure cap may be at the handle end of the comb and the spindle 13 may be oval in shape.
