Abstract
599,398. Making tanks ; welded joints. MORANE-SAULNIER.June 27, 1945, No. 16426. Convention date, May 15, 1940. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a method of making welded tanks, the flanged vertical walls' B, Fig. 1, are welded to the bottom A by forming a continuous seam a at a distance from the edges of the flanges and tank bottom, a transverse spot weld b is made from the end of this seam to the edges of the bottom and flanges and an arc weld is made at c between the spot weld line and the end of the flanges. Welds d, Fig. 3, are then made, extending transversely from weld a to the edges of the tank, thus confining leaks to the space between two such welds d and allowing the edges of the tank to be welded together along their length between two welds d in order to stop any leaks that may occur. Tanks may have a welded angle C as shown or an integral bent flange obviating the necessity for a separate angle C.
