Abstract
599,035. Woven fabrics. FINLAYSON, D., and CRAWSHAW, H. Sept. 12, 1945, No. 23538. [Class 142 (iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A woven fabric, suitable for use in conveyer or power transmission belts, has a warp consisting or comprising braids in each of which the major proportion of the weight of the constituent yarns consists of yarns running substaritially parallel to the axis of the braid and the minor proportion comprises one or more binder yarns crossing and interlacing with yarns of the major proportion. The braid may be tubular in form, with the binder yarns running helically round it and may contain a core of parallel yarns not interlaced with the binder yarns. The weft may be a flat braid, and as disclosed in Specification 586,202, the fabric may comprise, at intervals amongst the weft, a weft of several times the weight of the wefts elsewhere in the fabric. The yarns employed in the warp braids may be yarns of continuous filaments that have been stretched, in the presence of a softening agent, so as to increase their tensile strength. The continuous filaments may be of cellulose acetate or other organic derivative of cellulose, in which case they are saponified after stretching.
