Abstract

598,887. Fluid-pressure brakes. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI. April 2, 1941, No. 4393. Convention date, April 2, 1940. [Class 103 (i)] The check-valve by which the main and auxiliary reservoirs communicate in the devices described in Specifications 496,340 and 512,365 is normally held unseated by a spring so that a limited pressure difference between the reservoirs is permitted without the valve being closed thereby and application of the brakes by a limited temporary drop in the main reservoir pressure is avoided. A device constructed in accordance with Specification 512,365 is shown except that the check-valve 27 is normally held open by a spring 55. The valve and spring are carried by a piston 30 subject to the opposing pressures in the main and auxiliary reservoirs. The spring 57 serves to guide the valve and may be dispensed with. In a modification the valve seat has an upward cylindrical extension so that the cross-sectional area of the air passage remains substantially constant over a limited range of movement of the valve.
