Abstract
597,737. Control of motors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Aug. 28, 1945, No. 22108. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1944. [Class 38(iii)] To obtain rapid braking and reversal of a D.C. motor driving a calender or rolling mill for rubber the polarity of an exciter for a Ward Leonard generator supplying the motor is arranged to reverse on breaking the supply circuit for an auxiliary field winding on the exciter. The exciter 6 has a separately excited field winding 11 in parallel with a resistance 12, and an opposing field winding 10 in series with its armature. When the supply to field winding 11 is interrupted by a switch 14 the polarity of the exciter will reverse, when the windings 10, 11 and resistance 12 are suitably dimensioned, resulting in braking and reversal of the motor 2. If reverse running is to be maintained additional means may reverse the current in winding 11.
