[Class 100 (iv)] Ink-ribbon mechanism; paper-supports.-In a typewriter or like machine wherein a hectograph ink-ribbon 13 is fed between a paper sheet 10 and a traversing support surface such as a platen 6, whereby mirror-script originals can be produced, the ribbon is fed along the face of the platen 6 lengthwise of the direction of traverse, the sheet 10 is fed upwards past the platen and from the typing station TS, a stationary ribbon guide support 16 extends down towards the typing station and behind the rising sheet, and a ribbon guide 14 on the support engages the ribbon behind the sheet and in the region of the typing station for positioning the ribbon against displacement in the direction of the paper feed. The ribbon runs between two arms 15, one at either side of the type impact area, lobes 15a, 15b on one or both arms overlapping the top and bottom edges of the ribbon. The guide 14 is detachably mounted by means of headed pins 17 engaging keyhole slots 18 on the support 16 which extends from the back of the machine body and curves forwardly and downwardly over the paper carriage towards the typing station. The guide may accommodate a wide ribbon 13 capable of taking more than one track of characters in which case the support 16 is carried by a curved sheet of metal 20 to which is attached a curved plate 21 spaced therefrom to embrace flanges 19a extending from a member 19 on the support 16 whereby the guide may be adjustable circumferentially of the platen. A hand-lever 22 projects from the plate 21, and a spring detent 23 has a pip 231 engaging in any one of a series of holes in the plate 21 to hold the ribbon in either of the positions shown in Fig. 6. A thin anvil 25 as described in Specification 596,683 may be releasably mounted on the guide.
